For the summer learning journey 3-3 I created a obstical illusion.
A optical illusion is something that fool's your eyes by appearing to be an other than it is.
I am a Year 6 student at Panmure Bridge School, Auckland, New Zealand. My teachers are Mr Wong and Mr Ogilvie.
For the summer learning journey 3-3 I created a obstical illusion.
A optical illusion is something that fool's your eyes by appearing to be an other than it is.
Today I commented on Davids blog post about Fishy False teeth.
We created a Kowhaiwhai pattern for a summer learning Journey activiy. We had to make our own and own style of a Kowhaiwhai pattern
For this weeks summer learning journey task I did the fishing false teeth activity.
For the fishing false teeth activity I got to do a comic and there was a list of pictures with the two fishermen. Then you have to write what you think they are saying.
I learnt about fractions by cutting cups into quarters and eighths.
First I learnt how cut a cup int to quarters. Quarters are something that is cut into four equal pieces and eighths are something that is cut into eight equal pieces.
After that I learnt about denominators. A denominator is what was the fraction use to be and numerators a numerators is showing how many of the parts show by the denominator are taken, for example, 2 in 2/3.
I think fractions are good because it is great and it is good for the division.
L.I. to define "fraction".
This week we were doing our Resource requisition, shelter materials.
First we figured out what materials we needed to make our shelter outside ls1. We thought of Wool, Plaster, Clay bricks and Aluminum cans. The cans hold up our roof so it won’t collapse the clay bricks to make our shelter wool take a while to burn so my group and I chose wool.
Then the layers of the structure had clay on the outside layer, aluminium cans on the inside layer, the wool will be on the inside of the aluminium cans and the plaster of paris is to hold the materials together.
After my group and I corrected our shelter materials and model with Mr Wong we finished and got our materials.
Not most materials can protect against natural disasters.
For this week we were carried on doing translating Maori names into English names.
Some names sound like English and we tried to not use the Maori Dictionary to help us translate the words that we didn't know I got some of them but the rest I used the Maori Dictionary to help me.
Afterwards Whaea Odie called us to the mat to check ad see how were going well.
I enjoyed translating Maori names because there's word that i did not know.
LI: to learn Maori people's names
When we started our session of touch rugby with Mark, we practice our two man and three man settles for our session with Mark.
First we practised two and three man settle to get ready for a game of touch.couch mark told us to aim for one person when we drive the ball down the field.
Next we played a game of touch the game was for learning how to play and how to use a two and three man settle.
I thought Hector, Kahu and myself did well with three man settles, but I have to practice seeing were I am throwing the ball.
I watched a kapa haka performance.
First, some people from the kapa haka group performed an entrance ceremony dance. In this dance they sang a waiata and danced. The group introduced us to the Maori traditional weapons. They used poi and ti rakau. A poi is a ball stuck onto a rope. A ti rakau is a medium-length stick. Both of these weapons use the wrist movement and improve the wrist flexibility.
After that, they performed the haka. I think they did a good job and it was very entertaining. After the people did the haka, the senior boys from the kapa haka group in PBS performed a haka as well. The boys also did good.
The last activity we experienced was to play traditional Maori games. We played Matau & Mauī with taiahas. This game is a listening, coordination and reflex game.
I think their performance was great and the dancing as well.
For this week's Maori we translated Maori people's names into English.
Some names sound like English and we could use the Maori Dictionary to help us translate the words that we didn't know.
Afterwards Whaea Odie called us to the mat to check all of our work and to mark, how are we are doing and seeing if were on the right track or not.
I enjoyed translating Maori names because there's word that i did not know.
LI: to learn Maori people's names
This week in our session of touch rugby with Mark, we learned how to do two man and three man settles.
We did two man settles a two man settle is letting the person with the ball get touched and having the second person pick up the ball and pass the ball back to the person that was touched.
Then we did three man settles a three man settle is having three people one run's up to the cone. With the ball and planting it on the ground. Someone else picks up the ball then throw's it to the person behind.
Afterwards we played walking touch there were one team with jumper's and another team was T-shirts. When one person has the ball and you get touched. you plant the ball then one person behind. The guy that got touched he pick's up the ball then throw the ball that is either on the right side or the left.
Then we started to jogging when you get touched you have to move back five meters in that game of touch. We started to do the two man settle, and the three man settle. The three man settle was very good for the team i was in also for the other team. even the two man settle was good for my team and the other team.
This week, our company (Global Savers) brainstormed ideas for an emergency shelter design.
We needed to think of a main shape to design the emergency shelter. We needed to find a main shape because it would be holding everything. We also needed to think about what our shelter will be designed to resist.
My group used a design programme called SketchUp, that allows people to design and create anything they want in three dimensions.
We chose to use a hexagon shape to make this model. Me and my group chose this shape because it seems like a very strong shape.
We made the walls thick so it could keep people inside of it safe. We would make the shape tall so in case of an emergency we could fit quite a few people in there.
This week for reading I did a table mat about this book Just like new.
First we read a book called Just like new. It's about a girl that want's a new dress but she can't adored it so she always has to make her own dress. Then I started writing prior knowledge.
Next I wrote key words. One of my key words was occasions. Occasions here is one word similar to occasions is rude.
Lastly I wrote my 4 facts. One of the facts was the first ever dress to be made was tar khan dress.
I really enjoyed learning about reading and I also like to read.
We watched a performance by the Duffy theatre group about the Cog gen. A Cog gen is a mythical creature that is mixed with a cat, dog, and a chicken.
Before the show, the actors introduced themselves. Then we sang the Duffy song.
Then the actors perform for us.
lastly the Duffy group held a question and answer session.
For this week's Maori we had to translate the Maori name into English.
Some names sound like English and we could use Maori Dictionary to help.
Afterwards I tried to show my work but whaea Odie called us to the mat.
Whaea Odie checked all of our work - I got most of them right but I think I did good.
I think this was a good way to learn more Maori.
Fractions are a whole cut into equal pieces.
A half is a whole cut into two equal pieces.
A quarter is whole cut into four equal pieces.
Below are some examples of a quarter and a half looks like.
LI: to define fractions.
We learnt planting the ball in touch ruby by playing bibs vises non bibs.
First I got in to a group and I planted the ball choose my partner then i planted the ball. I was a defender in defender vises attacker.
Afterwards I started to be an good attacker. I was a defender and there were two attackers then the other person committed to the ball but then I blocked it
Then the attackers won 5 and I blocked one more for the defenders. So the game was all tied up I was an attacker then I faked the pass then I scored a try.
I enjoyed these sports and I enjoy learning about touch.
For this week maths we learnt how to do division and solve division. I had to complete a list of division
First we wrote a object and split it into a half. For an example i had 2 blocks. I ÷ it between me and my sister. We each got 1 block. 2÷2 =
Next we wrote who we shared the object with 3 people.
Then we used counters to help me to figure out the division.
L.I. to dived object evenly
Today we learned some basic skills for touch Rugby.
First we learned how to tap the ball, catch, and pass the ball.
Afterwards we played passing drills to get better at committing to the ball and catching.
I enjoyed these sports games and I enjoy learning about touch.
Explorere and Adventurers are people who travel and discover new things.
Explorers are people who travels to find new things and record them for commenty such as Sylvia Earle.
Adventurers are people who travels to take part in something for themselves, such as Jeremy Clarkson
Explorers and Adventurers need to have or show many different attitude, such as Risk-Taker it means a person that take a huge risk. The importance of a risk-taker is having the skill to be brave.
Both explorers & Adventurers travel to new places and need similar qualities although their goals are different.
